The native player appears to be Quicktime, but quicktime as a standalone program won't open the exported files. Strange
Everything appears as either iTunes or QuickTime if the Mac can't figure out what to do. iExplorer is not an Apple product:

It's natural to just use QuickTime Services for everything, but you don't have to. For one thing, historically, QuickTime will not recognize Windows Media files. See Flip4Mac:
