Hi,

Is there a hack or some way of opening an audio file (WAV, AIFF etc..) editing it and saving over it, without having to re-export?

Stepping on old work is highly not recommended, although popular. We know it's popular from the people who post here wanting to know how to rescue their show when the computer does something funny during the Export and takes out both the edited work and the original.

But more to your question, Audacity doesn't Save sound files unless you count all those thousands of au files in a Project.
