I keep getting this error when I attempt playback or record:
Please check the playback device settings and the project sample rate.

The digital sound specifications Audacity is expecting and the ones of the sound device are different enough that Audacity can't figure out what's going on.

When I get that one, it means that I've plugged in my mic while Audacity was open. What I do is quit Audacity, open system preferences select the mic, open Audacity again, and select the mic in the input devices. And it works.

Another solution that should work is to select "Transport menu > Rescan Audio Devices", then wait a few moments while Audacity rescans.
