FFmpeg installation: Cannot find plugin

OSX 10.6.8; iMac; Audacity 2.0.5

Hi all,

I have been trying to install the FFmpeg Import/Export Library for hours without luck. I have tried the normal install and alternative zip install from the FAQ:Installation, Startup and Plug-ins" page.

But nothing I do seems to enable Audacit to find the plugin files and successfully export. I unzipped to a folder called "FFmpeg_v0.6.2_for_Audacity_on_OSX" as instructed, and put it in the Applications Folder where I have all rights. I open Audacity and to go preferences/Libraries and point both LAME and ffmpeg to the respective dylib files. All seems fine. But when I go to export my small audio to M4A and click SAVE and OK, I get the same error window telling me that the "properly configured ffmpeg is required to proceed etc...

Can anyone help ?

Does your install look like this? Most of that is Read/Write by koz (who is logged in) and Read-Only by everybody else. No "root" account. I have the Mac set to show me all filename extensions. That's why all the .app text is visible. Both MP3 and M4A work.

My file structure looks like this...but I notice I don't have the Lame _Library folder ... ? But I have installed the Lame Library 3.908.2 but cannot find the same folder as you have anywhere on my HD.

Do you see the F, C and U numbers opposite "FFmpeg Library Version" in the Audacity Libraries Preferences? If not, Audacity can't see FFmpeg.

When you click "Locate..." for FFmpeg, does it say "Success"? If it does, and you press "Yes" to locate the library manually, what location is shown in the box?

If that location shows your Audacity installation folder then presumably your permissions are broken. In Finder, use Go > Utilities, open Disk Utility then do "Verify Disk" and "Repair Permissions".

Lame installs by default to /usr/local/lib/audacity . Mac won't let you see that folder by default. See here for how to show hidden files and folders: http://www.wikihow.com/Show-Hidden-File ... n-Mac-OS-X .

You should not do this unless you are sure you know what you are doing.

Alternatively open Finder then use Go > Go to Folder and type:

Can you export MP3 files OK?
