How do I use an MBox 1 to record into Audacity?

Post by Lambkin » Tue Jan 28, 2014 5:30 pm

We are a public high school Music Technology class. The only interface we own for our microphones is an MBox 1. We are using the most current version of Audacity and our MacBook is running OS 10.7.5. When I connect the MBox and start Audacity it recognizes the device. I select the MBox for input, connected our mic and hit record but I get the following messages:

"Internal audio port error"
"Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate."

I have tried all sample rates below 48kHz (which is what the MBox supports. Any help would be greatly appreciated so my class could start recording!

Desperation settings should be 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. "Stereo" is set in Devices. If that works, try upping the sample rate to 48000 (Video Standard).

If that doesn't work, try Mono instead of Stereo.

As we often say on the Forum, Audacity has no explicit support for MBox or DigiRack - they are meant for use with ProTools.

MBox always used to require standalone Digidesign Core Audio Drivers to work with software other than ProTools. Do you have those?

Does your original MBox work with ProTools? Is the MBox's supported ProTools version meant for OS X 10.7.5?

I think what you are trying to do is not officially supported by Avid, but see http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=304830 and other topics on that forum.
