Nothing is clickable

Post by mikep63 » Wed Oct 16, 2013 1:26 pm

I am trying to cut out a bunch of garble in an MP3, but nothing in the pulldowns at the top are clickable.

I downloaded Audacity 2.0.4

MAC Version 10.8.5

Hope someone can help.

Thanks,
Mike

Check that you are in "Stop" mode and not just "Paused"

Okay, but I don't think it matters from what I'm seeing.

I want to be able to remove several minutes of audio from an MP3, that is scattered throughout the audio. Are there any tutorials on this?

Basic editing is described in the manual here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tu ... _file.html

I looked at the manual and just don't see how I delete sections of my MP3 in Audacity.

Basically you just select the sections you don't want by clicking and dragging with the cursor and then pressing Delete or Ctrl+K

More precise selections can be made by using labels

  1. Open Audacity
  2. "File menu > Import" to import your MP3 file
  3. Click and drag along the waveform to highlight (darker grey) the part that you want to delete.
  4. "Command + K" (or "Delete" if you have a Delete key) to delete.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 as required.
  6. "File menu > Export" to export a new file.
Note that Audacity does not natively support exporting in MP3 format due to license restrictions.
If you require MP3 format for the final result, you can either, export as WAV and the use your favourite MP3 encoder to convert it to MP3, or you can install Lame so that Audacity can export in MP3 format. See here for information about Lame: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... .html#lame

I'm doing that and see the gray, but when I do the command K nothing happens, UGH!

See attachment.

I then want to put it back on my iphone.

Most operations in Audacity are disabled while Audacity is playing, recording or paused.
Press the Stop button (or press the spacebar) to stop playback.
