As I just pointed out that patched build is not a fix, it just sets the bug incidence back to where it was. The ƒ is no doubt the problem - did you create it with Option - f ?
Can you quit 2.0.4, then download 1.3.10: http://audacity.googlecode.com/files/au ... 1.3.10.zip ?
Put your ƒ in the name of the folder you run Audacity 1.3.10 from. Then start 1.3.10 and drag some files in. Please post the crash report if it crashes.
