Getting Audacity to open after downloading

Post by foxyface14 » Mon Sep 02, 2013 11:10 am

In attempting to download Audacity I ended up with finding it running as an Application - which I only discovered when I tried to open it on the desktop of my Mac 10.6.8 via a zip for a second time. I then transferred this Application to Trash and downloaded Audacity again via audacity-macosx-ub-2-1.0.3.dmg but nothing I do will allow me to open Audacity and achieve a Project Window on the desktop. The Audacity icon which has appeared in the dock brings up nothing on the desktop when double-clicked. I am a relative novice at this and all I want to do is transfer some old vinyl records and some cassette tapes to my computer and from there to an iPod much as I do with CDs using iTunes. Although I have the correct cables from the Tape deck phones outlet to the inline jack on the back of the computer I can't get any music playing through the computer into the computer speakers either. Any advice from those more experienced in this field would be most gratefully received.

Drag all the Audacity folders to Trash and unmount any Audacity DMG's that are mounted.

Then download Audacity from here http://audacityteam.org/download/mac and be sure to follow the installation instructions mentioned there.

If there are still problems after that please let us know.

OS X does not allow inputs to play in the speakers.

You can try Transport > Hardware Playthrough or Transport > Software Playthrough in Audacity.

If neither let you listen to the input, try LineIn from http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/ .

You can try Transport > Hardware Playthrough or Transport > Software Playthrough in Audacity.
That works for me on all my Macs. Sometimes I forget and leave that running when I'm trying to record a microphone. That's not a good combination.
