Problem using the Equalization effect

Post by enjoys Audacity » Sun Aug 11, 2013 10:45 pm

Hello, I have a problem in version 2.0.3. I imported an audio track, then used Edit and selected all, then used Effect/Equalization (by Martyn Shaw & Mitch Golden), then selected Graphic EQ, then Flatten, then used the toggle to increase only 4000Hz from 0 to 12dB, then Save/Manage Curves... to give this setting a new name. The problem is that when I try to use this new saved setting on a different audio file, the look of the curve on the graph is quite different (i.e., several of the toggles are no longer set to 0). Also, when I set the 4000Hz toggle to exactly 12dB on the graph and then hold the cursor over the 4000Hz toggle it says 4kHz/16.0dB (not 12dB). I'd like to understand if I am missing something or doing something wrong. Thanks so much.

There is a bug in Audacity 2.0.3 in which the Eq curve changes if you switch between "Draw Curve" and "Graphic Eq".
The problem has been fixed in the development code and so will be fixed in the next Audacity release, but for now you will need to ensure that you save and load curves in the correct "mode" ("Draw Curve" or "Graphic Eq") so that you don't need to switch from one to the other.

I think the bug went deeper than that. Curves created in Graphic mode will corrupt if you reapply them in the same session. It's better to create curves in Draw Curves mode and stop in that mode.

Thanks steve and Gale. I am experimenting with your suggestions and although it is a bit tricky for me I think I am getting the hang of it.
