Post by Yashu » Fri Jun 21, 2013 8:36 pm

HI Bill....Ive got a Mac book pro OS X 10.8.4 and hv downloaded the latest version of audacity....I also have the problem of not being able to open audacity ...it bounces up and down on the dock. I can get around it by opening an old audacity file where I have done a recording before ....however when I do that I cant use my Rhode podcaster for it wont give me that option....so Im wanting to open audacity in the finder and connect my Rhode to record with. I tried to follow your instructions but couldnt....was too complicated...eg I dont know where library is on my mac.... Id really appreciate more clues please.... thanks alot..... :)

I started a new topic because this may not be a problem with plug-ins that the topic you posted in was about.

When Audacity does not open, how are you opening it exactly - are you opening an MP3 or MP4 file?

Do you see a Mac crash report when Audacity does not open? If so, can you click in that report, copy the text then paste the report here? That may tell us what is wrong.

Are you opening the same version of Audacity when it opens the old Audacity file? Is that an AUP file you are opening or something else? Or do you mean you are opening an old version of Audacity (not the version that crashes)?

You want to use only the latest Audacity 2.0.3 - old versions will have lots of problems like possibly not working with your Rhode. I know you said you have the latest version, but please check you got 2.0.3 from here http://audacityteam.org/download/mac . If you don't have 2.0.3 yet from that page, download it and follow the installation instructions exactly.

Trash all the other Audacity versions you have.

When you have 2.0.3 installed as per above, don't launch it yet. Please do all the following.

In Finder, choose Go > Go to folder... and type "~/Library/Preferences" (without quotes) into the dialogue. Delete the file "audacity Preferences" if it exists.

Choose Go > Go to folder... and type "~/Library" (without quotes) into the dialogue.

If there is an audacity folder inside the Application Support folder, open the audacity folder.

If there is no audacity folder inside the Application Support folder, create one. Make sure it is all lower case.

If there is an audacity.cfg file inside the audacity folder:
1) Open it in TextEdit
2) Delete the contents of the file and replace it with:

Code: Select all

NewPrefsInitialized=1
[AudioUnits]
Enable=0
GUI=0
[VST]
Enable=0
GUI=0
Rescan=0
3) Save the file without changing the extension.

If there is no audacity.cfg file inside the audacity folder:

1) Start TextEdit
2) Enter exactly this content into the new TextEdit document:

Code: Select all

NewPrefsInitialized=1
[AudioUnits]
Enable=0
GUI=0
[VST]
Enable=0
GUI=0
Rescan=0
3) Save the file as "audacity.cfg" (without quotes) inside the audacity folder.

Connect your Rhode if it is not yet connected. Start Audacity. It should launch without problem. Select the Rhode in Device Toolbar .
