repeated frequency reduction?

Post by Diwwies » Tue Jun 11, 2013 8:12 pm

Running Mac OS X Lion

I am trying to make a quick bootleg/edit of the song "Far Away From Me" by Butch Clancy, and the number one change I would like to make is half-timing the crash symbols through the first riff after each drop.

example: i'll use "o" to indicate crashes and "x" to indicate no crash. The song is in 4/4 time at about 126 BPM

current: x x x x / x x x x/ x x x x/ x x x x/
after edit: x o x o/ x o x o/ x o x o/ x o x o/

I figured out if I select a section that only has the crash symbol playing I can use the Noise Reduction effect to get the result I want, what I need help with is if there is a way to tell the program to perform a Noise Reduction every OTHER time the sound frequency of the crash symbol happens, while doing as little as possible to the playback of the rest of the frequencies in the song.

I may be explaining this in a very complicated way, it seems simpler in my head than it probably is. If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about or can at least follow me enough that they would be willing to keep discussing it I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

I'm sorry, I made a mistake, the rhythm now is

o o o o/ o o o o/ o o o o/ o o o o/

and I am trying to change it to

o x o x/ o x o x/ o x o x/ o x o x/

and you are able to do that without the result sounding horrible?

The short answer is no.

The longer answer is that you could use regular interval labels http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/re ... abels.html or "Beats per minute labls" http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 02#p194202 to mark the sections so that it is easier to select the bits that you want. After applying an effect you can use Ctrl+R to (repeat) apply the effect again. More generally you can assign custom shortcuts for effects that you use regularly http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/ke ... ences.html
