This forum is for Audacity on macOS 10.4 and later.
Please state which version of macOS you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Audacity menu > About Audacity".
Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

Edit or lack of
I loaded the Wav file and selelcted the part I want to delete and nothing happens. I've tried hitting the delete button and control x and control k - nothing happens it won't let me delete the selected section intro of the WAV file I opened. Any advice/suggestions please?

Press the yellow Stop button. Please see this link http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... tml#grayed .
Also note that most Audacity shortcuts on Mac use COMMAND, not CTRL.
