Anyone have any suggestions on why the newest version of audacity does not connect with the usb driver download for the focusrite scarlett 212? (I am running OS X 10.8.3)
Any suggestions/solutions much appreciated

I have listed my os. I downloaded dmg--isn't it supposed to be the more complete download versus the zip?

Either download should be able to connect to a USB device.
Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Is your Focusrite listed there? If you select and play something, does the blue ball sound meter bounce?

Is it still missing if you plug in the Focusrite and then restart Audacity?

Re: focusrite scarlett 2i2 & audacity
No-- the scarlett 2i2 selection just mysteriously disappeared in the
Preferences area-- i can only assume this is a software conflict between
Lion, audacity or focusrite or all 3 --- i have no audio going into my
Computer.
no focusrite scarlett to be found under apple> preferences> hardware either
