Recording to USB flash drive

Is it possible to record directly to a USB 2.0 flash drive? I’m using OSX 10.5.4 and a Tascam USB audio interface to record up to 10 tracks at a time in a live music venue.

From our experiences in video, live production on external USB devices is usually not successful because of the USB half-duplex nature. Bidirectional Firewire is much better and you can sometimes get away with that, but both are left in the dust by internal drives. And people sometimes have trouble with real time sound management on internal drives, so you can use all the speed you can get.

Give it a shot, but don’t “test” it on a production show.

Koz

Yes it is possible, but like Koz I have doubts about how successful/reliable it will be.
The simplest way to specify where Audacity records to:

  1. Open Audacity
  2. “File menu > Save Project As” and specify where you want to record to.
  3. Start recording. The audio data is written directly into the project folder that was created when you selected “Save As”.
