Line-in problem

Post by huhu_hum » Wed Dec 19, 2012 2:51 pm

Hello,

I don't know if it's a problem or just something that is not possible but I give it a try.

I installed Audacity on my macbook pro (10.7.4) and plug my amplifier (Yamaha as-500, line 2 rec) with a regular jack.
I switched the audio port on the mac book to "sound input", and launched audacity.

Problem, I just have the "built in" input and not the line in (see screenshot)

I tried to "rescan audio device" but nothing changed.

If anyone has an idea, it will be awesome !

Thanks for reading,

Charles

There's three different variations in Macbooks. The older ones had a real Stereo Line-In like the circle with two black arrows.

The Macs in the middle had one connection that handles both headphone out and Stereo Line-In and you had to switch it around in System Preferences. The shiny new Macs have no Stereo Line-In. For them we recommend the Behringer UCA202 or equivalent.

But yes, it usually shows up as Built-In Line-In or something like that.

You may just be plugged into the wrong hole in the back of the amplifier. I can't tell what the options are because of poor pictures. Koz

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.

The thing is, it seems to be well plugged :

But in Audacity, I dont have other choice than choosing "Built-in Input" (I should have "Line-in" no ?)

Anyway, when I try to record, I have nothing but a straight line :(

Do you have an idea ?
Yes. It's not Audacity. Send a scan of the back of the amplifier so we can read it.

You don't need Audacity to test this. Open Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound> Input and watch the dancing blue sound meter. If you don't get that, you have zip - nothing.
