I have changed the cfg file and nothing still....I'm at a loss of what else to do. I have reinstalled and changed the file (cfg) to what was recommended here but audacity still won't open for me. I am running OS 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro (an older one. I can't upgrade to 10.7 because it won't take it). Trying to install Audacity 2.0.3. maybe that's too new for my computer??? advice? please. Thanks.

Reinstalling Audacity will not help. Audacity 2.0.3 work with OS X 10.5 and later.

Do you have Audacity installed inside an "Audacity" folder inside the Applications folder? If so, try this.

1) Create a folder called "Portable Settings" inside the Audacity folder.
2) In TextEdit, create a new file and put this in it:

Code: Select all

NewPrefsInitialized=1
[AudioUnits]
Enable=0
GUI=0
[VST]
Enable=0
GUI=0
Rescan=0
3) Save this file in the Portable Settings folder, naming it "audacity.cfg"

Now try to start Audacity.

Is this the same problem you had a few months ago ? You did not let us know if that was solved.

If Audacity does not start after following Bill's instructions, please attach the Mac crash report. Please see here for how to attach files http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 49&t=64936 .

To be strictly accurate, it works with 10.4 or later.
