I’m trying to convert cassettes to CDs using a 3.5mm to USB cable attached to a cassette player and my new MacBook Air respectively. My only input option with Audacity though is Built-in Microphone. How can I get Audacity to recognize the USB cable so I can import this cassette audio? Thank you!

A straight 3.5mm to USB cable does not usually contain the necessary analog to digital converters and USB controller. Could you describe the make and model of the cable you are using?
