Compressin to GSM 6.10 WAV is very Staticy!Help

Post by turbophile » Thu Apr 26, 2012 6:56 am

Hello all, I am new to this forum, and to Audacity all together. I tried searching for about 15 minutes before starting a new thread but came up with Nothing, so here goes.

My problem is, when I record an audio message, it sounds clear as day, but as soon as I compress is as a GSM 6.10 WAV, it becomes unclear and rather staticy. I am using Audacity 2.0.0 on a Mac with latest update. I really hope someone can lend me a hand in solving this issue.

Thanks in advance :)

If your audio track is stereo, convert it to mono before you export (Tracks menu).

I'm already using mono. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Normalize the track to -3 or -6 dB before exporting.
Don't expect to get hi-fidelity from GSM6.10
