Audacity Startup

Hello all,

I have a new Macbook Pro with macOS Monterey version 12.6 and memory 16B. I just tried downloading the Audacity MacOS 3.2.1 and received a popup message stating
Audacity Startup Failure
Unable to creat shared memory segment. Error code=12: “Cannot allocate memory”.

It then states press OK

I contacted Apple and they informed me to contact Audacity customer service and that I have 457.41 GB available of 994.66 Machintosh HD.

Have any of you seen this problem before and might you be able to provide a solution to it?

Thank you, Michael

Hi,

I also have a new M2 Macbook Air, version 12.6, memory is 16 GB. I have tried both x86_64 and arm64 downloads for 3.2.1, 3.2.0, 3.1.3, and they all give the exact same error:
Audacity Startup Failure
Unable to create shared memory segment. Error code=12: “Cannot allocate memory”.

Over 8 GB of memory and 300 GB of SSD is available.

Does restarting your machine help?

Hi LWinterberg,

Thank you for your advice. I just restarted my computer and Audacity now works. My startup issue has been resolved. Much appreciated.
