no recognizing audio from USB input nor microphone

I’m trying to convert an old cassette to digital files. The hardware is showing up as recognized but when I play the cassette and hit record in audacity nothing is being captured/recorded.

I also tried changing the recording source to the microphone on them Mac and that didn’t work either.

I can however input an audio file and play it but that is not what I’m looking to do.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Baby steps.

Does your Mac have a built-in microphone? My Mini doesn’t.

Find out if the Mac can see the built-in microphone. This is from my Air.

Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Sound > Input > Built-In Microphone.

Make sure the volume slider turned up and talk at the computer.

See if the Input Level: meter bounces.

Maybe, there is a problem with your headphones.
