Error code -9986 on Big Sur 11.3.1, Audacity 3.0.2

Hello everyone.

If my problem is that I’m using the wrong version of Audacity, definitely direct me to the one I ought to be using.

If not, I’m attempting to record using a Rode NT1 and Focusrite Scarlett. See thread title for other relevant info.

Here is the exact message: “Error opening recording device. Error code: -9986 Internal PortAudio error.”

If I unplug the audio interface at any point after recording and plug it back in, Audacity throws me this error message and refuses to record.

Once during a test record it also threw this error about 5 minutes in out of nowhere. It was fine up 'til then.

I can’t seem to find any info on this specific error code. I appreciate any help.

If you change your computer audio system (such as adding or removing an audio device) while Audacity is running, you must “Rescan Audio Devices” (in the “Transport” menu) so that Audacity will know what has changed.
