In editing, I’ve been using split cut during pauses in my audiobook I’m recording, but sometimes it’s grayed out and I can’t choose it. I select the portion to be edited, but can’t choose that option. I’ve tried Silence Audio a few times and it seems to work, but I’d rather choose Split cut. Why is it sometimes not an option and can I change that?
What version of Audacity are you using?
Could you post a screenshot of a project when it is in a state where Split Cut is greyed out?

Sure, Bill. Thank you! Version 2.4.2
The current version is Audacity 3.0.2.
Perhaps (I don’t remember) Audacity 2.4.2 requires playback to be stopped rather than just paused
It does.
Allurajai: If you want the cursor to stay at the point where you stopped, use the “X” key to stop playback.

Thanks, Bill! I’ll try that and upgrade my Audacity.
‘X’ works perfectly! Thank you!
