Timed recording?

I'm aware that Audacity has the capacity to set a recording time well in advance. Is there a way to set a recording time at 1 minute, enough to start recording and run to the vocal mic?

Ask that again and use different words. Timer record will start any time in the future, go for as long as you want and stop any time. It will record whatever device you have set. I see you can also make it save or export a project or sound file at the completion.

You can't do it twice without setting it up again. That's a frequently requested feature, mostly from people searching for an affordable surveillance recorder. You also can't change recording devices automatically. You're stuck with the recording device connected at the Start Time.

So, I just went to Transport > Recording > Timer Record and the screen asked me to set the Start Date and Time. There is a counter there showing the current hour, minutes, and second of the day. I simply went in with the mouse and incremented the minute counter by one, and clicked OK. Then a new window appeared with a counter giving me 58 seconds to start my recording.

Most of the time I think this will work OK. If you are near a ten-minute mark on the clock, you may have to change more than one digit. And beware, the clock stops counting when you start typing, so if you fiddle with it for 45 seconds or so, you will only have 15 seconds left.

Recording vocals over a backing track.

An alternative to using Timer Record would be to use the Time Shift Tool to drag the backing track 1 minute to the right (so that it starts playing after 1 minute). When you have finished recording, delete the first minute from both tracks.
