Audacity Forum

Hi! I accidentally pressed some keys and now Audacity is now stuck in some strange mode. I can't research how to fix it because I don't know what this mode is called!
I get a light grey bar across my track and, when I try to edit, my selection is behind the bar. I tried turning Audacity off and on again, but the bar is still there and affects all my files. I would upload a screengrab to show you, but I don't think it is possible in this forum...
Any clue how to fix this?

My guess is that you have inadvertently selected one of the "Tools" (https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tools_toolbar.html)
The default "Tool" is the "Selection Tool".

The default tool is the "I-Bar."

Your "Tools" toolbar is hidden. Enable it in "View menu > Toolbars".

(Currently you have the "Multi-tool" enabled)

I found it! Having opened the toolbar I saw the envelop tool was selected and unclicked it.
