2 more questions about correcting latency

I've been going through the latency test print out and there are 2 things that are unclear.
1. Where is Software Playthrough? It's supposed to be turned off, but I can't find it anywhere in the manual.
2. This is probably a stupid question but I want to be absolutely certain: When holding the microphone in front of a speaker, does the original track need to be playing?

1. Where is Software Playthrough?
It's a checkbox under
Recording Preferences.
2. This is probably a stupid question but I want to be absolutely certain: When holding the microphone in front of a speaker, does the original track need to be playing?
When checking latency you should be playing the click track/rhythm track.

It is off by default.
As DVDdoug wrote, it can be found in "Recording" Preferences. (
https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/rec ... ences.html)
It is also in:
"Transport menu > Transport Options" (

Yes. The idea is that you are recording, through the microphone, the track that is playing. You then adjust the "latency correction" so that the original track, and the newly recorded track are synchronised.

Thanks Steve, that clears things up.
