Trying to record singing with imported music
I am brand new at this and I am trying to add singing of the lyrics to a downloaded karaoke song. I have MAC 10.15.5 and Audacity 2.4.2. I imported the song and when I hit record to sing, there is no audible music from speakers or if I plug in earbuds, although I can see the track is playing. The singing recording jumps to where it looks like it is starting at the end of the song in a "window" below the imported track, nothing like what I have seen in YouTube instructional videos. I can play the imported song, but when I hit record, everything changes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Trying to record singing with imported music
First, make sure you have "Play other tracks while recording" checked in Recording Preferences.
Second, make sure that "Record on a new track" is NOT checked.
You will not be able to hear your voice in the headphones.
When you're finished, the voice track will be out of sync with the music track unless you first set the latency adjustment as explained here. If you don't want to go through setting the latency adjustment you can manually move the voice track using the Time Shift tool.
