Student submissions

Post by umbachka » Fri Jul 24, 2020 3:33 pm

Hello All,
I am trying to us Audacity this summer with a college music technology class. The question is, When students have sent their assignments to me through dropbox or googledrive I am receiving an error see attached. Can some explain a workaround or what exactly why this is happening. BTW the data folder is present. Thank you
Keith

I believe the Party Line is to Zip the AUP file and the _DATA folder into an "Archive" (as Apple calls it) and send that. Transmission errors and scrambles vanish when you do that. At least the unintentional ones.

Over and above the general admonition of not using punctuation marks in filenames:
The AUP file and the _DATA folder have to live in the same location or folder, they have to be named the same and it has to be the name you gave them inside Audacity. No fair changing them later.

Open up one of the reluctant Project AUP files in a text editor and read it. Do Not save anything. It should have English-like programming words and the original name of the Project burned in (red box).

This Project was spiffed up a little for the picture, but all the parts should be there, if not as pretty.

- You may find the projname entry is different from the show you have. Changing the file and folder names back may bring the show back.
- You may have a blank AUP file. That's the end of the show.
- You may have an AUP file with blocks or graphic characters. That's the end of the show.

Many of these problems should vanish in the next Audacity version. The Project format is being revised.

Any of that help?

Koz

The simplest workaround would for them to "Export" a normal audio file (such as an MP3 or WAV).
An MP3 will be MUCH quicker to upload / download than a project, even at the highest quality settings.

Perhaps the name has changed?
