Balance question!!

Post by Philippayne » Wed Jun 03, 2020 12:17 pm

Hi all,

Was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction here. My issue is:

- I've got a mono mp3 recording but it has a terrible off beat echo when the balance is set in the middle (something wrong with the original recording that can't be changed)
- However when I turn the balance to full L or full R the off beat echo disappears.
- What I would like to do is save just the R or L balance that sounds fine on its own and then effectively bring the balance back to the middle or resave as a full mono recording again so that you can listen to it in both ears.
- As mentioned above it is a mono recording so I can't just cut out one line.

Any help much appreciated, thanks Phil

When you import the file into Audacity, does it appear as a single channel mono track, or a two channel stereo track?

I'm a Windows guy, but if this a true-mono file I'd guess there is a MacOS setting or some kind of sound utility that's trying to add "space" or "width" to the sound.

Have you tried listening to the file on a different device?
