Audacity won't record

Help for Audacity on macOS.

Please state which version of macOS you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Audacity menu > About Audacity".

Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

Audacity won't record

Hello,

I am new here. Trying to record some vocal audio. Just purchased a new USB mic but cannot get audacity to record at all. Here is the relevant info that I know of:

Running OS 10.15.4

Restarted audacity several times

My new mic is selectable in the drop down menu

even the built in mic will not record for some reason.

I uninstalled audacity and did a fresh install. Still didn't work.

Please let me know if something comes to mind. I really appreciate any help you can give. thanks
