Please state which version of macOS you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Audacity menu > About Audacity".
Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.

File won't open
Hi there. I'm sorry if this question has been asked over and over again. I have a couple of .aup files I haven't opened for a couple of months. I've now come back to them and Audacity is telling me that it can't find the project data folder. Is there a way of opening or recovering this file?

The audio data for an Audacity project is stored in a separated folder that is named with "_data" at the end. If you don't have the project's "_data" folder, then you have no audio.
