What worked for you? It may be helpful for others if you describe in your own words.

Audacity 2.3.2 on Mac OS Catalina 10.15

I just updated my oS and installed Audacity last night. I have a blue yeti mic and checked inside the audio app on my mac that it produces sound/is connected properly. Audacity acknowledges it under the mic dropdown. I spent all day troubleshooting. Sure enough, under security>microphone there is no permission box to check. I nearly gave up and found this thread! There is hope. However, I tried this workaround and still get the thin blue line, indicating no sound is being picked up. I am new to my mac and audacity so the lingo and platform is very unfamiliar so please reply clearly and simply for a middle-aged non-techy mom who's trying to help their kid with a school project. Here's what I did:

I got as far as the script code, entered it, saved it as instructed. Then opened a new finder window, went to applications > launch audacity.app. I right clicked to get info.

This next part was where I was unsure: "drag audacity.icns onto the default app icon" (I took this to mean the audacity headphones app inside the applications folder. I then closed the window as instructed.

when I opened audacity, I got an error--some files couldn't be opened (like a dumb-dumb I clicked away and the error disappeared. Not sure how to find out what it said.) I tried recording again and still get the blue line.

I would like to be able to record sound. Any and all help is appreciated.
I'm having the same underlying issue. Can anyone confirm if these steps resolve EllieH's issue?

Script works great (Mac OS 10.15.2, Audacity 2.3.3)! My only problem was minor - couldn't find the Audacity .icns file. Had to use a PNG file and convert it to .icns using an online tool.

Also, you must drag the .icns file to the icon image in the upper left corner of the Get Info dialogue box.

Thanks for the workaround!

Hi folks,

please, someone can help me solve my problem, no clue why I can´t record anything anymore, since I updated my system to fxxxxx Catalina 10.15.2.
I am not able to get an input signal on Audacity, neither for the mic, nor for Soundflower 2ch. The app does start without problems:

-trying this on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27 ", late 2015)

-Audacity 2.3.3 installed
-Soundflower 2.0 b2 freshly installed
-mic permissions for Audacity on my Mac activated
-restart done
-system settings / sound options, output set to Soundflower 2ch
-input level on Audacity set to the max

...still can´t get any signal on Audacity, neither for the internal mic, nor Soundflower 2ch as input source when hitting the rec button.

I could use Audacity propperly before my system has been updated to Catalina.
What is going wrong now? I´m lost... therefore any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

The problem is that Apple have added another layer of restrictions to what applications are allowed to work on their computers.

See here for a workaround: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=107162

Thanks a lot Steve, for your superfast reply, that´s awesome!!

I wasn´t aware that the way the app has to be opened would make a difference.
It´s working now :)

Happy holidays and a Happy New Year!

I tried both methods...

Both times I get this

-->. “Audacity” can’t be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.

Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the App Store and identified developers. <--

The workaround that has been tested and found to work for most Catalina users is this one: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=107162

My advice for the few that this workaround does not work for, is to wait for Audacity 2.4.0 to be released (scheduled for release around the end of Q1).
