Audacity 2.3.2 on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6
I edit a podcast once a week. Every time after maybe 20 mins of editing - every time, not exaggerating - Audacity will refuse to play back audio. The cursor just does nothing. It is possible to do everything else such as continue to edit or highlight audio but it will not play... rendering it useless.
The only solution is to restart the Mac which sometimes leads to hours of work being lost (half a day's work today) because sometimes the files won't save and are unrecoverable. (Sometimes they can be saved and that's okay but still it means restarting the Mac & that is time consuming.)
It feels like there should be a really simple solution to this but I do't know what it is...can anyone help?
Freezes. Work lost.

Are you using cloud-based storage or network connected drives?
What kind of Mac is it? I'm typing on a Mac Mini with large monitor and hardware network connection.
What else is running? Look at the indicators on the Dock.
This shows Finder and Firefox running.
Go (top of the desktop) > Computer.
Select the Macintosh HD > File > Get INFO.
What does yours say? Shift + Command + 4 will let you draw a box around the display and capture it. Post it.
Bottom of a forum text window > Attachments > Add files.
