I'm using Audacity 2.3.2 in Mac OS 10.14.4 with a Sony WI-C300 Bluetooth headset, and having static during playback. Recording with the headset seems to work fine, it's just playback through Audacity.
I looked in several other bluetooth playback issues topics, and like others, I'm having no problems playing back audio using Quicktime or iTunes. But when the same files are played back with Audacity a static/crackling is clearly heard.
Based on posts in this forum, I tried changing settings in Audacity preferences or MIDI with no improvement. I then went though several other settings I found in Audacity preferences in the Devices, Playback, Recording, MIDI Devices, and Quality sections. Nothing helped.
Thanks

Re: Sony WI-C300 Bluetooth playback static Audacity 2.3.2 Mac OS 10.14.4
I think the party line is BlueTooth can't support full quality sound transmission, so the other apps cheat and reduce the quality before it goes out. Audacity doesn't do that.I'm having no problems playing back audio using Quicktime or iTunes. But when the same files are played back with Audacity a static/crackling is clearly heard.
Post back if you do get a process to work.

Having the same issue with airpods.
Extremely annoying as Audacity used to be my go-to app for quickly viewing spectrograms and playing back audio
Seeing how my main use case is examining and listening for glitches, having glitchy playback is unacceptable.
Bluetooth audio has come a long way in the last few years, and I think Audacity should support it better. Bluetooth is plenty capable of high fidelity stereo audio, the only catch is the buffer is huge compared to a wire.
Logic is now what I use (although it takes a little longer to load and is overkill). I hope Audacity will support this. The way things are going, audio jacks aren't going to be around for much longer.
