1) Was the recording "jerky"?

2) Leave the recording running for an hour or two (perhaps with your Mac near to a TV so that there's some sound for the mic to pick up). Does it sound like two recordings over the top of each other?

No.

It's Sunday, so I will do some extensive testing today/tonight.

In the mean time, just curious, why the hesitation to listen to the audio samples (and video sample of Audacity recording) that I posted online? :(

Last Sunday night, I recorded "Casey Kasem's American Top 40" simulatneously on my old MacBook Pro and my new Retina MBP.

The 4 hour recording on my old MacBook Pro sounds great as usual.

The recording on my Retina is scratchy for the very start of the show all the way through. (Sounds like a scratchy radio braodcast.)

WTF is wrong?!

Audacity 2.2.2 is completely useless on my new Retina...

Still waiting to hear if long microphone recordings have the same problem as when you use loopback.

Did you tell us why you're still using the old 2.2.2 version rather than the current 2.3.1?

Twilight-Zone condition
I think I still have a login over on the Final Cut forum. If anything, the video people have even more sticky problems than we do.

Each time either the OS or the program went to an upgrade to improve stability with better data management, there was a tiny cadre that would pop up bitterly complaining of show damage. In almost every case, it turned out they were using a mistake in the old software to produce a show. When the mistake got fixed, it put their production into the bin.

There is also the possibility of a no known solution. Full stop. That's rare, but it does happen.

I'm beginning to see the wisdom of another fuzzy rule. If you spend more than about two or three weeks flogging your computer to record sound, stop using your computer to record sound.

There are a number of stand-alone sound recorders out there and they have few if any of the problems computers do. They make zero noise, natively produce WAV sound files, they're completely portable, and the operating system doesn't try to second-guess or time share your job.

One of the posters gave up and is using a Zoom H2n to record their work.

No, I did not hear any background noises while recroding my 4-hour show last weekend.

Why not listen to the audio samples I provided?

You changed what you were asking.

I interpreted your original question to be "Does your (laptop's) internal microphone pick up your voice or background noises as you record your radio shows?"

And I answered "No".

I don't know what a "long microphone recording" is, but I can tell you I have nothing hooked up to my laptop currently.

That is what was available when I started setting up my Retina long ago. Also, it sounds like there are some stability issues with 2.3.1.

Has anyone reported issues like I have reported in this thread regarding Audacity 2.2.2?

I have been using Audacity for nearly 15 years and never had any issues like this...

I did. It's garbled as you described.

Recording from a microphone for a long (several hours) duration.

I don't know of any large programs that are 100% bug free, but Audacity 2.3.1 is very stable for the vast majority of users, and is the recommended version.
