Trying to Record from Cassette Tape.

Hi there-

I bought a "Cassette to MP3 Converter"https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GFM59R3?ref_=pe_623860_70668690_dpLink and it recommends using Audacity to record, but so far no luck.

I’m running a Mac with High Sierra 10.13.6 and Audacity 2.3.0. I’ve gotten my computer to recognize the device, and I can get it to record in Quicktime, but it always stops recording after 3-5 minutes. When I try to record in Audacity I always get an error code, “Error Opening Recording Device. Error Code -9986 Internal PortAudio error.”

I’ve put in all the settings as the converter device recommends. I can’t figure out what’s wrong. I’m attaching some images of my settings.

Thank you!

Check the USB lead and connections. It looks like the USB device is disconnecting.

Once the connection has been lost, Audacity is unlikely to find it again, even if the device reconnects, without either:

  • restarting Audacity
  • Rescanning audio devices (“Transport” menu)
