Crackling with Bluetooth headphones

When I press play while using bluetooth headphones (with any kind of audio), the audio stutters a bit and there are a bunch of crackling sounds. After leaving the audio playing for a couple seconds, both the stuttering and the crackling stop. This happens only when I use bluetooth headphones, and never with wired headphones/built-in speakers.
(I’m running macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.6, and Audacity 2.2.2).

Do you have any other BlueTooth devices connected at the same time?

What does the manufacturer have to say about it? Is there a FAQ where it turns out lots of people have this problem?

No, I only have the one pair of BlueTooth headphones.

I’ve searched everywhere, and I couldn’t find anyone else with this problem. And it’s not a problem with the headphones, as this only happens with Audacity.

Any ideas?

Hey! I had the same problem and just figured it out. All I did was I changed the audio output from my bluetooth headphones to “MMAudio Device”, one of the four options for output besides my headphones, built-in output, and "MMAudio Device (UI Sounds). Hope that works for you too!
