Crashed, tried to recover, help, stuck, due tomorrow, b nice

My girlfriend has been working on a project all week but mainly tonight, she has a busy day tomorrow and has to be up in 3 hours and she needs to turn it in in 8 hours. but will not but able to re do the work she did already. So I hope that there is help out there. I’ve been trying to solve this for a few hours now. Excuse my scatterbrained word vomit that follows…

She went to export her file and audacity crashed. She is asleep now so i’m not sure what happened to the saved version of the AUP file.
I also don’t understand why the temporary folder is empty. Also, I believe she accidentally saved the file after the error occured. Basically the audio tracks are all silent, they are in the right spots and the have the right file names on the left hand side but, no data actually in them. I hoped it would be a simple fix as just pointing to where the files are actually supposed to be but I’m not getting anywhere.

And then is auto closes and gives no options of ignoring or replacing or deleting like I do with the windows version (2.2.2) i have but i’m not getting much further.

If so, then the only solution is to go back to the most recent back-up, but I’m guessing that she didn’t make any back-ups, in which case chocolates may soften the blow.

You could look on her computer for the directory
/Users/USERNAME/Desktop/2018/SOUND ART/
and see if it contains the .au files, but the problem is that even if you find them, due to editing, they are not in chronological order, and some may be old files that are no longer used, so unfortunately the chances of recovery are very poor.

This one caught us out because it’s caused by people using a normal tool in an unnatural way—Save As when Save was intended. So it wasn’t tested. And it was unstable.

I did find all of the .au files.

So there is no way to reconstruct the AUP file? I was reading somewhere to make the AUP file an xml file but I didn’t know if that was actually a viable way to repair it. I wish there way a way to replace the silenced audio that are in the right spots with the correct working versions.

I really hope there is a solution out there, i could use a few brownie points…
