Drop outs!

I am recording audio from www sources by using my MBP (OS 10.10.5) to channel the audio through the only output on the MBP port to my Q1202 USB preamp.

Then sending the USB signal to (iMAC OS 10.13.4) Audacity in a separate computer. I’ve done this in the past with great results and no problems at all. However today I am getting dropouts every few seconds, see attachment. The dropout is very obvious in the playback. I first suspected a faulty cable but that was not the case. Note that the dropout is NOT present at the output of the preamp; clear as a bell! As you can see it is easily seen on the Audacity timeline. I can record directly into Audacity on the iMac with no dropouts. I am using the 2 computer setup as it allows MUCH higher quality and avoids picking up room ambiance from the built in mic.

5/28 Wasn’t able to solve problem…but I did reverse the iMac and MBP and the problem went away!!! I’m wondering if there isn’t an App or a peripheral on the iMac that could be causing it. Thanks again.
