Can't record through Audio Interface

I’ve been trying to use a Behringer UMC404 audio interface to record with. It worked once or twice, and then when I next tried to record, it wouldn’t record at all: the cursor wouldn’t move, and it gave me the following error message
“Latency Correction setting has caused the recorded audio to be hidden before zero.
Audacity has brought it back to start at zero.
You may have to use the Time Shift Tool (<—> or F5) to drag the track to the right place.”

Any ideas

(disclaimer: I’m a novice at this, so apologies if I’ve overlooked something obvious)

Are you overdubbing—playing music to yourself or to a backing track?

Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording.

Do you have Overdubbing selected?

Koz

Thank you.
You solved my problem.

…ah!..but now I can’t hear the previous tracks when I record the new track!. How do I get around that.
