Total novice here so I apologize for the questions.

Help for Audacity 2.x.x on Windows.

ImageThis forum is for Audacity 2.x.x on Windows.
Please state which version of Windows you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Help menu > About Audacity".

Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

When I open Audacity 2.2.1 I find Audacity at 0.0 but when I select 'record' it jumps back to
-7.0 even though the recording starts at 0.0. I must have changed a setting somewhere.
Also I'm unable to discover how to play back recordings on the speakers in my computer.
Can you help? Thank you.

Make sure your Playback Device is set to your speakers.

I'm not sure about this one, but check the Latency / Buffer length. The default should be 100mS.
