When I open Audacity 2.2.1 I find Audacity at 0.0 but when I select ‘record’ it jumps back to
-7.0 even though the recording starts at 0.0. I must have changed a setting somewhere.
Also I’m unable to discover how to play back recordings on the speakers in my computer.

Make sure your [u]Playback Device[/u] is set to your speakers.

I’m not sure about this one, but check the [u]Latency / Buffer length[/u]. The default should be 100mS.
