Audacity settings help

Post by VOD » Tue Jan 09, 2018 4:41 pm

Hello,Can anyone please help me with the settings on Audacity.
I have had to reinstall and I can’t remember how to save the settings.
I need 16 bit then 48000.Each time I go to a new recording the settings have gone
back to default. How can I just keep 16 bit and 48000 without having to check at the beginning
of each recording.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It is highly recommended to keep the default bit format at 32-bit float. This will not affect exported files, but it does improve the sound quality when processing, and avoids to possibility of permanent damage due to clipping during processing. The bit format of exported files is entirely dependent on the selected export settings.

To set the default sample rate to 48000, open Audacity's preferences (Edit menu, or Ctrl+P), then select "Quality" in the left hand table, and set "Default Sample Rate" to 48000 in the right hand panel. Then click "OK" button to save the change.

Select 16-bits when exporting, but allow Audacity to work in floating-point "internally".
