Hey there, for some reason whenever i try to use my new blue yeti microphone, it will only record in whispers. Also it is reduced down to about 1/3 the time you record it.
So if i record a 6 second message, it will play in 2-3 seconds and everything i said is a small whisper and there is tons of clipping, no matter how quiet. Please let me know what i can do to make normal recordings!
I have windows 10. I also have the most recent form of audacity, i checked it yesterday to see if it needed to be updated

You should tell us the Audacity version number. I’m using 2.1.3.
That’s a lot of damage from a Yeti. Audacity gets sound from Windows, not the microphone, so it’s possible Windows is doing something odd. Is the Yeti plugged directly into the computer? No hubs or splitters?
Do a cold Windows shutdown. Shift-Shutdown, wait a bit and Start. Normal Shutdown or Restart doesn’t clear everything.
Did the little light in the middle of the MUTE button come on? That’s actually the USB Connection light. It flashes in MUTE.
Plug headphones into the bottom of the Yeti and see if it sounds OK there. There’s a headphone volume on the Yeti front. Do you have it there OK? Your problem description didn’t ring bells. You may have a damaged Yeti.

Those are some weird symptoms. The speed problem is especially strange…
First, make sure you’ve selected the USB mic as your [u]Recording Device[/u]. And, if you’re not listening to headphones through the Yeti, make sure your Playback Device is NOT the USB device.
But if you’re on a laptop, it would hurt to try the built-in mic. I know you want to use the Yeti, but if the built-in mic doesn’t work that might be another clue.
Make sure the gain is tuned-up (I think the Yeti has a gain control and a separate headphone volume control).
Make sure you are talking/speaking into the front side of the mic (not the back or end). There are multiple patterns, but the front should work with them all.
Make sure all [u]Windows Enhancements[/u] are turned-off.
Just to make sure it’s a recording problem, leave the same setup with the mic plugged in etc, and try playing a known good file in Windows Media Player. If that works OK, open the same file in Audacity and try playing it.
Try a different USB cable.

Do you mean distortion, or are you getting actual 0dB digital clipping? (Digital clipping should be loud, and it may show-up red in the Audacity waveform.)

Right. If somebody paid me I don’t think I could make it do that.
Can you try the microphone on a different computer? I’m having a hard time avoiding a broken microphone call.
