i am running 2.1.3 on windows 10. i had to import my mp3 file using the raw data option. all i get is static when i play back.
the file plays fine on the windows media player.
i have played all around with the preferences. no luck.
help!

That means it almost certainly wasn't an MP3 file. Audacity understands those just fine.i had to import my mp3 file using the raw data option.
Install the FFMpeg software and Audacity will recognize many more different sound files.
