Cutting out part while keeping beat consistent

Hi

I download and listen to a weekly three hours electro radio-show with a very good track selection. This means I listen to those shows a lot but the talking of the host gets annoying after the third time listing to it.

I tried to cut his part out but i always have a pretty ugly jump on the beat. It doesn't have to be perfect but a smoother transistion would be nice.

If i selected the part to delete is there then a possibility to play the track except the selected part? Like starting 5 seconds before the selected part. This way I could change the selection to match the beat a little bit better.

I already tried to remove the vocals with the two mono tracks trick but it sounded like straight from a horror movie

Vocal removal has some very serious rules. The show must be in good quality stereo and the vocal must be in the middle of the stereo field. Drums and bass usually vanish, too. It's good if the show wasn't in MP3.


The only way to match beats.....is to match beats. Find a downbeat or the start of a rhythmic phrase and then cut it to a matching beat or phrase a minute or more down the song.

I would copy the show so you have two matching ones one above the other, then cut and push the tracks so two chunks match with the vocals missing. If you simple Export the show, Audacity will smash everything together into one show.

Editing music is far harder than cutting a voice performance.

One club I go to has a song they cut so the beats match perfectly, but they got the phrasing wrong. If you're familiar with the song it will drive you nuts.

...With certain DAW software you can create a grid and adjust the grid to the beat, but that's not an easy thing to do unless you are recording original music and you're playing to a click-track already locked-to the grid.

So, I just think it takes some trial-and-error and a bit of luck. I've been successful with replacing a bad section with a good section a couple of times. And, a lot of times the edits are imperfect.

Try to find the beat, and blend the parts with a short crossfade. Usually, the crossfade should be shorter than 1 beat but it all depends on what works best. And, if you can find the start/end of a measure that will help maintain a more-natural rhythm. And, you may have to chop-out more than you want, to get a smooth-sounding result. I usually try to put the middle of the edit/crossfade right in the middle of the beat... If there's a glitch or noise, it's more-likely to be masked or an "unusual" sound may sound more-normal as part of a beat.

I have a program that allows you to "play around" (skip-over) a selection, but it's not a "regular" audio editor and it won't allow you to chop-out the selection.

Since the radio host often turns the track volume a little bit down before he starts talking, I already have kinda a crossfade. But I definity will play around with crossfades to futher improve the cutting. Thanks!

Since I have a 3 hour track and about 20 Positions to cut I was quite struggling with the multiple tracks approuch, but this is probably more because I'm not super familiar with the software. But anyway thanks for your Help!
