Bit rate conversion

Post by theojkett » Tue Oct 11, 2016 8:54 pm

Hi kids,

I've just recorded an audiobook for a client and submitted it. The client got back to me and said that the files need to be 192 bit rate. I recorded it at 44100. How do I go about converting it to 192? I tried to change it and when I did it really squished the audio tracks and made it sound like a munchkin.

I am hoping that I DO NOT have to re-record it.

Thanks for your help in advance.

ACX?

You should have performed the work and saved it as a WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit. Sample rate 44100 which is Audacity default. That makes a terrific archive and you can convert that to anything else with no or minimal loss in quality.

ACX requires submissions to be in MP3 format (not WAV) with a compression quality value (bit rate) 192 or higher. Audacity will not make a new MP3 without adding the Lame software. Scroll down on this page.

Open your work and File > Export Audio: File type > MP3, Quality 192 or higher.

You get into the quality value decision by the other submission specifications.

Let me know if I'm close. Audacity has several tools and submission tests for ACX that can make this process (slightly) easier.

By the way, if you have an older version of Audacity, you have to click the Options... button in the export dialogue to see the options for 192 kbps MP3 export bit rate. It always helps to tell us what version of Audacity you have. Please see the pink panel at the top of the page.
