Recording device error

Post by ken33650 » Tue Aug 16, 2016 7:24 pm

Windows did an auto update and now I keep getting an error message which says "Error while opening sound device. Please check the recording device settings and the project sample rate".

I am trying to record directly through the computer and record what I am hearing on my speakers. When I click on the microphone is shows no devices found.
Under preferences, devices, recording it says no devices found. What happened? How can I get to record what is playing through my computer speakers?

I am running Windows 10
Version is Audacity 2.1.2

Self recording is not an officially supported process, so you can't go back to Microsoft to fix this.

Also because of that, there's no telling how you got there in the first place. So unless you wrote down the process, it's start over.

You use Windows Sound to enable recording devices. Restart Audacity after making changes there.

If this computer was previously running older Windows, you may need to update the drivers of your built-in audio device to Windows 10. Have a read of http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Windows_10_OS#drivers.
