using Audacity for the first time

using Audacity for the first time
using Windows 7. i don't know if i 'obtained the .exe installer or the zip'. i got the software and installed it on my puter. connected the gizmo to the computer and opened the software, but my computer does not seem to be recognizing the gizmo...cassette player....
