Re-Scanning for Effects Plugins

Post by BeatleManiac » Thu Jul 21, 2016 12:00 am

This has never happened before, but now suddenly my Audacity 2.1.0 crashes immediately when it tries to re-scan for effects plugins. I uninstalled and re-installed --- same thing happens. I installed 2.1.2, and it doesn't even give the option to re-scan for effects plugins; so apparently you can only use the 18 effects plugins that come with the download?

My Audacity 2.0.6 still works normally.

Windows 7

Any thoughts about why this suddenly started happening yesterday, and what I need to do to return Audacity 2.1.0 to normal?

thanks

Audacity 2.1.2 doesn't have Effect > Add/Remove Plugins at the top of the list?

Yes, thanks, Kozikowski. I was looking for the Re-scan feature under Preferences, which is what we always had in the past, before 2.1.2

In 2.1.2, I see we have to manually enable or disable each effect plugin separately --- seems like a step backward from the re-scan process, which we always used previously. But I did it, and it works.

I'm still curious regarding why my 2.1.0 has suddenly started crashing when doing the Effects Re-scan.

Audacity 2.1.2 has a Select All button on the left. That's a mixed blessing because if you have multiple Audacity versions, it tries to load everything from them all.........

Traditionally, someone would subscribe to ton lots of effects, or multiple effects collections, dump them all into Audacity and then Audacity wouldn't start. We would tell them to take the effects out one at a time until Audacity starts. That or some combination of that and the others are the bad ones.

Audacity hates plugins that have graphic management. I think that's still true.

The most likely cause is a new dll somewhere in the plug-in search path that Audacity doesn't like.

Can you explain what that means. Current Audacity supports graphical interface in VST, LV2 and Audio Units (Mac OS X).

You can click the "Select All" button.

Whatever the problem is (which suddenly developed in 2.1.0), the same problem does not occur in 2.0.6 --- I did the same Effects Re-scan there, it worked just fine.

Anyway, I have replaced 2.1.0 with 2.1.2 --- hopefully I'll like this version better, anyway.

Thanks, guys.

Current Audacity supports graphical interface
Than that's no longer an issue.
