I recorded for 20 mins then after recording it disappeared?

Post by ThomasSidney1 » Fri Jun 24, 2016 3:08 pm

I've just recorded a 20 minute voice-over and it worked perfectly, as I talked I could see the volume move up and down, etc. Afterwards, I exported it as an MP3 file, and put into my editing software, but it said there was an error, I exported it again in a different format and got the same problem. Then, I looked back on my audacity program and all the audio was gone, but the track was still there?

What's happening? I don't really want to redo the recording again for 20 minutes knowing it could disappear again? Help?!

I could see the volume move up and down, etc.
As part of that etc, did you see the blue waves accumulating as well?

Which number Audacity do you have?

Have you been recording for weeks and it's the first time it's done this? Is this your maiden voyage?
all the audio was gone, but the track was still there?
So you had no blue waves but just a flat line 20 minutes long?

There is a condition where your virus protection software likes to eat the recording cache files "to protect you." You're getting seriously into Windows exotica and I'm a Mac elf. We should wait for one of the other elves.

We would strongly suggest not doing production in MP3. Use the Audacity default WAV (Microsoft) instead. Each time you open an MP3 for editing, the compression distortion goes up and the sound quality goes down. Yes, WAV files take up a lot more room. Clear, uncompressed audio files do that.

If you use Audacity 2.1.2 from http://audacityteam.org/download/windows it won't let you set your Audacity temporary directory to an area prone to deletion by cleanup tools. See the pink panel at the top of the page.
