How to operate Audacity
I bought the Hype to convert cassettes to CD's & my MP3 player. I start the first track. when I stop it at the end of the song I go to file, export then it asks where I want to save it. When I go to do the second song it says this file already exists do I want to replace it. I just need a little help to put all the songs on the cassette in the same place. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance.
Re: How to operate Audacity
In the Windows file explorer, go to the Music folder and make a new folder. Name it something easy to remember.
Then, in audacity, go to "File menu > Export Audio". This will open the "export dialog" where you can set the name of the file that you want to export, the location, and the format.
Navigate to the folder that you made, and enter a unique name for the file. Use only letters and numbers in the name - "special" characters can cause problems, especially punctuation characters.
Ensure that "WAV (Microsoft) signed 16-bit PCM" is selected as the export format.
Click the "Save" button.
If a window pops up that says "Edit Metadata Tags" at the top, just click the "OK" button.
Your file will now be exported.

Re: How to operate Audacity
I was following your instructions but it didn't work. When do I go to file, new and when audacity opens hit record button and play button on the Hype ?
Am I missing something. I really appreciate your help.

Re: How to operate Audacity
1) Create a new folder and name it something easy to remember.
2) Connect the USB cassette player
(1 and 2 may be in either order)
3) Open Audacity (this should be after the USB cassette player has been connected)
4) Make the recording
5) Export the recording to the folder that you made in step 1.

Re: How to operate Audacity
When I am in Audacity and go to file it only has Export Audio, no export to mp3. How do I know if I have the lame file I need downloaded.
I opened a folder Mabe's Music , connect the Hype, Open Audacity, make the recording , export audio to the folder I made. The next song, it doesn't let me put that song in. It says that file already exists do I want to replace it. Am I missing a step or something. I want to copy the cassettes to my laptop , burn them to cd and then to my MP3 player.
I really hate to be a bother with this but I have 16 Solid Gold Collection tapes to do. Thanking you in advance. Mabe

Re: How to operate Audacity
It would help if you said what version of Audacity you have (please give us all three Audacity numbers, see the pink panel at the top of the page).
But you can do it easier than that, assuming you recorded the songs to the same Audacity track, by labelling the end of each song then using File > Export Multiple... . That way, you type the file names in the labels. See Splitting a recording for export as separate tracks.
If that CD is for a standalone CD player like in a car or music centre, then you want to export as WAV and be sure to burn an "audio CD". See Tutorial - Burning music files to a CD.

When you click Export Audio, in the window that appears, click in the "Save as type" box. Select "MP3 Files" there.mabebabe wrote:When I am in Audacity and go to file it only has Export Audio, no export to mp3.
Follow these steps to the letter: How do I download and install the LAME MP3 encoder?.mabebabe wrote:How do I know if I have the lame file I need downloaded.
You will have to give the song a different name.mabebabe wrote:I opened a folder Mabe's Music , connect the Hype, Open Audacity, make the recording , export audio to the folder I made. The next song, it doesn't let me put that song in. It says that file already exists do I want to replace it.

If that CD is for the MP3 player, then export as MP3 is correct.mabebabe wrote: I want to copy the cassettes to my laptop , burn them to cd and then to my MP3 player.

How to operate Audacity
Can someone please help me to download cassettes to my computer so I can burn it to CD to play in my car and also Put them on my MP3 player.
I open Audacity , go to file, choose new , start then recording , when I am done I go back to file hit export audio. This is where things go south.
Where am I saving my song to so that when I go to do the second track it doesn't say already exists do you want to replace. I am using Windows 10.
A couple of years ago when I started this process I was on Windows 7 and did half the tapes. I wanted to finish this project. Any help greatly appreciated .
I don't know what else to do. Thank you.
